Formation of Diverse Meanings of Menopause: An Integrative Literature Review

Objectives: To identify the diverse meanings of menopause in various contextual settings and to be mindful how these are formed. Methods: An integrative review was performed analyze existing literature on menopause. Whittemore Knafl’s five-step process followed. Literature published between 2005 2022 reviewed. Medline, CINAHL Scopus, Nursing Reference Center Plus, Google Scholar databases were searched. The PRISMA flow diagram used illustrate process. For quality appraisal articles, Critical Appraisals Skills Programme (CASP) checklists depending study design. Qualitative, quantitative, mixed method, systematic articles included. A data extraction form designed encompassing author, year, methods, context, setting sample, country, related theme. each study, findings coded inductively, codes reviewed for their commonalities differences. Key contributing pieces relating grouped into themes. Results: total 65 studies analyzed this review. Different identified. five main categorized themes bio-physiological, socio-cultural, sexual, psychological, spiritual factors. Conclusions: Although among women can differ, common across countries.
